On Wednesday, the energy commissioner of the EU, Kadri Simson will land in India for a 2-day visit. EU stated that she’ll meet government ministers, officials of the International Solar Alliance and other stakeholders during this trip, which is a first-ever for her. Simson hopes to deepen India-EU cooperation in areas such as offshore wind, solar energy, energy efficiency and renewable hydrogen.
It must be noted that EU and India have a robust cooperation on smart grid and storage technology, transition to cleaner energy, and renewables deployment. “I am looking forward to my visit, taking place shortly after the G20 energy transition ministers’ meeting in Indonesia. We are facing a global energy crisis, as well as the enormous challenge of climate change,” Simson commented. She added that the clean energy transition provides a key to addressing the energy crisis and climate change, and India, with its vast renewable resources, has a strategic role to play.
As per reports, the European Commissioner will inaugurate the first EU-India Green Hydrogen Forum on Thursday, along with the Union Power Minister RK Singh. Apart from sharing the best practices and policies on the role of hydrogen in energy systems, this forum will deliberate on upcoming and ongoing hydrogen projects and clean hydrogen production and application technologies.
Simson will also attend an event aimed at enhanced bilateral partnership in manufacturing, solar energy, and diversification of the global supply chain. It is being collaboratively organised by the EU and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, in association with Solar Power Europe and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
