HCL’s team is using the capabilities and platform of Cloudify for a new solution that allows telecom operators to create reliable, dedicated SDN connections

HCL Technologies Limited, India’s third largest software services company, has entered into a partnership with a leading cloud-native orchestration platform – Cloudify, to bring 5G network slicing to telecommunication operators.

This association will enable the telecom service providers (TSPs) to provide differentiated services designed to specific customers and use-cases, so they can capitalise on the value of their investments in the next gen 5G technology. In addition, they can unlock new streams of revenue by transforming their existing networks of 4G technology.

The engineering and research and development (R&D) Services team of HCL is using the capabilities and platform of Cloudify for a new solution that allows telecom operators to create reliable, dedicated Software-Defined Network (SDN) connections.

Opportunity for telecom providers

Speaking on the partnership, Nati Shalom, CTO at Cloudify, said, “Like every industry, telecom providers have faced a growing need to digitally transform in recent years, to keep up with the demands of the market. As a result, telecom providers are undergoing a transition from physical to virtual infrastructure, and a shift to cloud-native network functions. Tying all these new and existing technologies together is creating a complex challenge.”

He further said, “At the same time, the demand for faster connections and better customer experience has made investment in 5G and SDN crucial priorities for telecom providers. HCL’s powerful network slicing solution, built on our open technology, provides telecoms providers with a unique opportunity to simplify the challenge significantly, while unlocking valuable new revenue streams.”

To capitalise investment in nex-gen tech

Sukamal Banerjee, Corporate Vice President, HCL Technologies, said, “Our new network slicing solution will help telecoms to capitalise on their investments in next-generation network technologies to greater effect than ever before. The ability for telecom providers to diversify their services and provide guaranteed connections for MVNOs and important business functions, such as Internet of Things (IoT), is crucial as traditional communications services become increasingly commoditised.”

The capability for telecom operators to develop dynamically-provisioned, dedicated virtual networks with performance and functionality designed for real-world scenarios will benefit several sectors including automotive, manufacturing, utilities, healthcare, multimedia, public transport, public safety and financial services. These abilities will be mainly significant for emerging use cases around IoT, where flexible network solutions and performance will be crucial to support concepts like Smart Cities, connected cars, and predictive maintenance in manufacturing.
