Under the Make-II initiative of Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Ghaziabad-based cable manufacturing company, Riddhi Infratel recently indigenised the OFC Cable Assembly used in the Air Defence Radar (AD TCR) of BEL for connection between the OPS and Radar Surveillance Vehicle (RSV) shelters. On the occasion, Riddhi Infratel representatives were felicitated by Mr Dheeraj Talwar, AGM at BEL-Ghaziabad.
The statement released by BEL noted that the OFC Cable Assembly was being imported so far. It added that now, it has been fully indigenised, successfully evaluated and qualified for applicable environmental standards by Riddhi Infratel. It is learnt that the line replaceable unit (LRU) is a part of the DPSUs’ second positive indigenisation list.
It must be noted that Make-II initiatives are aimed at replacing imported items with indigenous ones. It’d help to indigenize defence equipment, while also reducing cost and delivery time.
The officially released statement pointed out the multiple challenges faced by the company, including many logistic issues like non-availability / shortage of raw materials, rise in prices and the dearth of staff. It applauded Riddhi Infratel for still managing to complete the assembly production successfully within the stipulated timelines.
Bengaluru-based BEL is a Navratna DPSU under the Indian Defence Ministry. It was established way back in 1954, to meet the needs of the Indian defence services for electronics equipment, systems and services.
