DC link capacitors

DC link capacitors
In November 2012, TDK Corporation launched the EPCOS CeraLink, an innovative DC link capacitor for frequency converters.

Features and USP: CeraLink is based on a PLZT ceramic material (lead lanthanum zirconate titanate) and covers a capacitance range from 1 µF to 100 µF at a rated voltage of 400 V DC. Another type has a rated voltage of 800 V DC and a capacitance of 5 µF.

The new CeraLink offers many benefits in the stabilisation and filtering of DC link circuits of power converters, especially when compared to conventional capacitor technologies. Thanks to a low ESL value of less than 4 nH as well as a low ESR of less than 4 mΩ, the new capacitors are ideally suited for applications with high switching frequencies and rapid rise times. This includes converters for industrial and automotive electronics that operate with new fast-switching MOSFETS or IGBTs.

MEMS based gas flow sensor

MEMS based gas flow sensor
In October 2012, OMRON Corporation and STMicroelectronics launched a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) based gas flow sensor with industry unique built-in correction for differences in gas composition.

Features and USP: The OMRON/ST sensor solution enables the development of smart gas meters that are much smaller, less expensive, and more power efficient than the conventional equipment, resulting in substantial cost savings for the utility companies and end users alike. It combines OMRON’s MEMS thermal flow transducer with ST’s high-performance analogue front-end IC, delivering high precision gas flow rate measurement with excellent reproducibility. The sensor is intrinsically compensated for both temperature and pressure variations and a built-in circuit compensates for the variation of multiple gas composition. It is dust resistant to comply with international gas-meter standards.

Ceramic capacitors

Ceramic capacitors
In October 2012, Murata Manufacturing Co Ltd launched metal terminal monolithic ceramic capacitors that achieve high ripple current resistance and high effective capacitance.

Features and USP: The KR3 series capacitors comply with JIS standards and are optimal for general consumer and industrial electronic devices that are subject to thermal stress and/or vibration/mechanical impact. The KC3 series capacitors also comply with the automotive electronic components standard known as AEC-Q200 and are ideal for automotive equipment such as engines, engine control units (ECU), drive system controls, and safety devices.
Since the capacitors have a low loss and a high allowable current capacity, the heat generation of the capacitors (self-heat generation) can be reduced at the time of passing current.

Electrolytic capacitors

Electrolytic Capacitors

In April 2012, Rubycon introduced ultra long life miniature aluminium electrolytic capacitors, LLE series.
Features and USP: LLE series has been realised by employing high reliability electrolyte composition that was developed to stabilise the characteristics over time under high temperature condition, and extreme air-tight sealing rubber material.

The LED light bulbs tend to generate heat more and more by advancement in brightness of LED element and miniaturisation, and there are cases that the expected life time of the set does not make effective use of LED features with the conventional aluminium electrolytic capacitors. In such cases, LLE series achieves almost 2 times the life time of conventional long life capacitor and are the most suitable product as the input capacitor in the LED driver circuits.
