EESL and Baghirathi Sustainability India Team Up To Promote EVs

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of PSUs under the Ministry of Power, Government of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Baghirathi Sustainability India Pvt Ltd. Together, they will explore the possibilities of promoting electric vehicles in India.

EESL seeks to deploy around 250 EVs with this tie-up. It also aims to fast-track the adoption of e-mobility within private and government agencies located across India. It will start this from Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

131 EVs in India

Presently, Baghirathi Sustainability India Pvt. Ltd is operating around 131 EVs in India. The company had entered the electric car space in 2016 to help India mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as per the company.

Under EESL’s EV programme, 1,510 e-cars have been deployed sa far. Another 500 are under registration under the same program. EESL has signed agreements with many public sector undertakings, government departments, and state governments. These include the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gujarat, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and others for deploying e-cars.

470 captive chargers

Till date, 65 public charging stations (PCS) complying with DC-001 (15kW) have been commissioned in Delhi. EESL has installed total of 470 captive chargers. Out of this, 170 are DC-001 fast chargers and 300 are AC-001 chargers.

At least 10,000 charging stations

EESL aims to set up at least 10,000 charging stations over the next two to three years across India. Recently, EESL had signed and SDMC had signed an agreement to develop charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in South Delhi Municipal Corporation Area.

Minister of power and new and renewable energy, R K Singh had said at that time that installation of public charging stations (PCS) would help in taking considerable strides in the creation of a sustainable EV ecosystem in the states across India.
