Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) plans to install charging stations at 185 locations in six cities in the state. The government order issued by the transport department stated that the government has considered the proposal by KSEB, and decided to install 32 charging stations with six charging points each in Thiruvananthapuram.

Subsidy for investing in charging stations

N S Pillai, chairman of KSEB told ET that they are utilising central and state government schemes to install charging stations across the state. The Board has submitted a proposal to the ministry of heavy industries and public enterprises, which has announced a subsidy for investing in charging stations. It is also planning to set up one charging station in each corporation.

He further stated that the charging stations will be installed in lands under the government, especially KSEB, and taxi stands. They will be installed by KSEB or in PPP model or through any agency.

He mentioned that there is a proposal to install charging stations at national highway stretch at an interval of 25km, but he also suggested that a sufficient number of electric vehicles should be available to utilise the facility.

An amount of 3.75 lakh will be allotted for each charging point and 1 crore will be given for power supply and related civil work for stations, reported ET.

Recently, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Thiruvananthapuram is targeting to launch 10 lakh electric vehicles within 2022.
