Ultraviolette Aims For European And Middle Eastern Expansion

Niraj Rajmohan, Co-Founder and CTO of Ultraviolette stated that 2024 is set to mark the company’s foray into international markets while simultaneously strengthening its position in India.

In 2022, Ultraviolette Automotive unveiled the F-77, the fastest electric superbike of its time. A year later, the company is poised to broaden its horizons, targeting the Middle East, Brazil, and select European regions, with an ambitious projection of nearly 100,000 bookings. This was announced by top executives during a launch event in Bengaluru. Yesterday marks the debut of the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2, priced at ₹2.99 lakh. The company’s European journey began last month with the establishment of operations in Turkey. Niraj Rajmohan, the Co-founder and CTO, shared that 2024 is slated to be a pivotal year for Ultraviolette as it ventures into international markets while simultaneously strengthening its foothold in India.

Plans for Expansion

Narayan Subramaniam, CEO and Co-founder, revealed plans to extend the company’s network within India significantly. From the inaugural company-owned store in Bengaluru, the expansion aims to encompass nearly 20 locations. Despite modest initial figures for FY24, the focus will be on scaling up manufacturing capabilities and ensuring a seamless customer experience.

Ultraviolette Automotive has taken a significant step in customer assurance by offering extended battery warranties. The global warranty covers an impressive 800,000 kilometres, providing robust protection for the electric vehicle’s battery and drivetrain components. Rajmohan emphasized the global impact of Indian-made bikes, which have solidified their reputation in design and technology by driving innovation worldwide.

Ultraviolette has garnered support from notable investors such as TVS Motor Company, Zoho Corporation, and the acclaimed Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan. The company has introduced industry-leading features to its lineup, including dynamic stability control (DSC), a ten-tier regenerative braking system, traction control, and an enhanced range of 327 kilometres on a full charge—a significant increase from the F-77’s initial 307-kilometre range.

Despite being a nascent market, the electric motorcycle sector in India is witnessing growth, with total sales by all manufacturers, including Revolt, Hop Electric, Tork Motors, Oben, and Ultraviolette, not exceeding 10,000 units.

Ola Electric and Ather are among the companies showing interest in the electric motorcycle segment, which is abuzz with anticipation for new launches. Oraxa Mantis and Raptee, based in Chennai, are set to make their mark in the 250-300 cc internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle segment, which sees annual sales nearing one million units in India.

Other companies aiming to make a mark in this sector include Matter from Ahmedabad, Hop Electric from Jaipur, and Oben Orr from Bengaluru. These firms are targeting both the entry-level and premium segments of the electric motorcycle market, indicating a vibrant and evolving industry landscape.
