Sunil Nayyar, MD of Sony India, said that the company is aiming to see Rs 170 crore sales during the upcoming Onam season. This year, Onam will begin on August 15 and is expected to end on August 27, 2018.

Kerala has reportedly become the biggest market to buy full frame cameras and audio equipment of the company. In fact, during the world cup season, the state along with West Bengal showed the highest percentage of television buyers, especially of 32 inches. These two states added to Sony India’s good start to the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

Satish Padmanabhan, sales head of Sony India, said, “The TV sales in Kerala increased by 70% from a year before during the world cup season.” There has been a 100 per cent growth in TV sales of 32 inches and above in the first quarter of 2018-2019 as compared to the same of previous fiscal year.

Last year, in the first quarter, the company had attained a spike of 16 per cent in TV sales as compared to 2016, which was also better than the industry rate

Recovery from poor sales due to demonetisation and GST

Following the announcement of demonetisation in 2016 and GST-implementation in 2017, Sony India had experienced poor sales as after-effects. The consumer electronics company is aiming to recover from these after-affects and maintain its growth in TV sales and outgrow the industry.
