Monday, September 09, 2013: Setting up electronics testing labs will get easier than ever as the Department of Electronics and IT (DeitY) has now approved a scheme for providing assistance in setting up/ up-gradation of testing laboratories. The scheme aims to strengthen the available testing infrastructure and to expand the network of test laboratories in the country. Initially, the scheme provides for supporting 15 laboratories.
This scheme is a part of DeitY’s efforts to create capacity to bring in standards in the country for electronic goods. It is worth mentioning here that DeitY has introduced a scheme for mandatory registration of 15 electronic product categories vide its Compulsory Registration Order promulgated in October 2012 and which has come into effect from July 2013.
This order has generated a huge demand for testing of electronic products. More demand is expected as new products are launched and the list of products is expanded to enhance the scope of the existing order.
The scheme provides grant-in aid to central/ state/ academic institutions to set up/ upgrade test labs. The total amount which will be released under the scheme is up to Rs 15 million per lab. The assistance available is under the following heads:
