The Department of Electronics and IT (DeitY) has proposed setting up of Electronics and ICT Academies scheme in the states, in collaboration with academic institutions. These academies are proposed to be set up in public private partnership (PPP) mode. A special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be constituted in each state or union territory for the purpose.
The proposal builds up on pilot projects earlier implemented in Tamil Nadu and Kerala for setting up of ICT academies, which were approved by the then Department of Information Technology.
According to the draft scheme, electronics and ICT academies will be set up with aim to provide specialised training to the faculty of engineering, arts, commerce and science colleges, polytechnics, etc; improve the quality of students to make them industry ready and employable in ESDM and ICT industry; offer identified training programmes to faculty members on contemporary industry related subject areas where there is industry demand but shortage of skills. Each academy, depending upon the size of the state, will target a capability of training up to 8000 faculty per year.
