NASSCOM chief says Mysore should be the next IT hub

Monday, August 26, 2013: The state government is in the process of promoting information technology and electronics (ITE) in tier-II cities of Karnataka. After Bengaluru, it is the turn of Mysore to be developed as the next ITE.

The department of IT, BT and S&T was busy organizing satellite events in tier-II cities starting with Mysore, which is a prelude to ‘Bangalore ITE.biz’ scheduled in October. A conference was held on the first day of the two-day meet on ‘Mysore – the emerging ITE destination.’ It was on the future of ITE industry, therefore the leaders and players of ITE industry shared their perceptions on the latest trends that will form the future of IT and Electronics in Karnataka in general and specially in Mysore.

Krishnakumar Natarajan, the Chairman of National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) in his address emphasized on the need to target a goal to transform Mysore as the next ITE destination of the state Karnataka and also on the need to develop strategy to attain this target ascertained way. According to NASSCOM, Mysore’s IT exports stand at Rs 50 million, which accounts to four per cent of Karnataka’s total IT exports.

The Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry, Nagarajan Srinivasan said that CII is creating a plan for Mysore’s IT growth and by the end of this month, the plan would be submitted to the Chief Minister. The President of India Electronics and Semiconductor Association, PVG Menon asserted that electronic imports bill will surpass oil import bill in the coming three years in case India fails to focus on manufacture of electronic goods adding that Mysore has the capability to be the hot spot for product development because it already sports a PCB plant in Nanjangud.
