Thursday, March 27, 2014:The electronics sector in the country is witnessing a significant fall, with rising imports and falling domestic buying. The government of India (GOI) is said to be reaching out to distinguished persons of Indian origin (PIO) to form a global advisory board to help the development of the electronics sector in India.
India’s demand for electronics is likely to increase to $400 billion by 2020, and as per the recent structure nearly $ 300 billion will amount from imports. The Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITY), is reported to be approaching PIOs who will help restructure the market with their knowledge, experience and expertise. The idea is to build a self sufficient economy wherein exports should exceed imports.
As per some reports, DEITY wants to officiate this PIO relationship by way of an advisory board. According to a TOI report, a renowned Indian-American computer scientist said, “It has now gotten to a point where even sustaining growth trends in the IT and telecom industries is dependent on the ability to foster electronics design and manufacturing in the country,” who wishes to be anonymous and was approached by DEITY.
For supporting the electronics sector, in 2012, the National Policy of Electronics was formulated to make globally-competitive electronics design and manufacturing industry in India. Recently, DEITY ruled to support set up of two semi-conductor wafer fabs in the country.
