solar pv rooftopsTuesday, September 23, 2014: Roof-top solar panels are being made mandatory for new buildings in Hyderabad. The Telangana government is planning to make this installation compulsory in the city, so that energy requirements are met in a more efficient way.

Telangana Minister for Information Technology and Panchayat Raj, KT Rama Rao, spoke at a workshop in Hyderabad, which was organised by Administrative Staff College of India and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The workshop was organised on “Transforming Indian Cities to Smart Cities” and this event will lead to the 11th Metropolis World Congress 2014, due to held between 6-10 October in the city. The minister announced that the city has already such a mandate, and now it needs to be followed strictly by the GHMC.

The minister also agreed on the point that the law is not familiar to many but it needs to be implemented now with force. On the workshop agenda, the minister clarified that a smart city doesn’t evolve with only smart technologies but with smart citizens and smart services too. A smart city should aim to improve life quality and using technology for the same purpose. So no individual is sufficient for the purpose, but a combination of all, is what a city needs.

From the perspective of India, it’s better understood as this country is heterogeneous and suffers from miscellaneous issues like road traffic, drinking water crisis and also poor health services. So people need to follow discipline furthermore so that energy can be utilised in a better way. If the environment around you is clearer and greener with better sanitation and water distribution, then many problems can be resolved easily.
