Tuesday, September 23, 2014: Union Minister for Medium for Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs), Kalraj Mishra told that, in spite of leading growth of MSME sector in West Bengal, the poor infrastructure facilities might become a major hindrance for the progressive future of MSME sector in the state.
While addressing the interactive session organised by the Merchant Chamber of Commerce, he said, “Bengal might be leading in the sector but the condition is alarming and future is uncertain as a large number of units are getting sick… This is because units are not getting land, power, water, communication.”
He further mentioned that there are 2.5 million MSME units in Bengal, out of which 94 per cent units doesn’t have any access to the financial aid. He stated that, “Besides, there are the procedural impediments where you have to satisfy so many conditions under various laws to get the requisite permission and registration. While land is a big problem for the industry across India, the condition of West Bengal in that respect is alarming.”
Minister mentioned the initiatives taken by the state government to give the sector the much needed growth. The mentioned that the new policy will also focus on women and rural entrepreneurship. He added that the Credit Guarantee Trust Fund for MSMEs financial help have been established.
While explaining about the working of scheme he said, “If you provide Rs 1000 million for this, a collateral free loan of Rs 10,000 million would be offered for promotion of MSME under the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme.”
