Exicom Tele System has dispatched 20 charging stations to Visakhapatnam. While erection of 12 charging stations has been completed, work is under progress for the remaining eight stations.

In order to increase the sales of electric vehicles (EV), eight more EV charging stations will be set up in Visakhapatnam district soon, said H.Y. Dora, Chairman and Managing Director, Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL), on Sunday.

Dora told journalists after releasing electric cars for official purpose of the power distribution company.

Exicom Tele System, a company engaged in designing, engineering and manufacturing of entire range of power solutions, has dispatched 20 charging stations to Visakhapatnam, he informed.

Out of that, erection of 12 charging stations has been completed and the work is under progress for the remaining eight charging stations. The remaining charging stations will be erected soon in the second phase, he added.

The Central Government has set an ambitious goal of 100 per cent incremental sales of EVs by 2030, Dora said.

EV charging infra is crucial

Dora pointed out that setting up of infrastructure for EVs charging is very crucial for faster adoption and penetration of EVs in Andhra Pradesh.

Globally, electricity distribution companies have been directed or mandated by electricity regulators to invest in EV public charging infrastructure, he said.

In December last year, the APPCC took a decision for establishing EV charging Stations in the vicinity of Amaravathi, Guntur, Tirumala, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam.

In January this year, Andhra Pradesh Distribution Companies (APDISCOMs) issued a tender on e-procurement platform and a letter of authorisation (LoA) to Exicom Tele Systems Ltd. In May, APDISCOMs signed a Turnkey Solution Agreement (TSA) for 50 numbers of DC fast charging stations with Exicom Tele Systems Ltd.

According to some reports, the government of Andhra Pradesh will introduce 1,000-1,500 EVs in the state in the next few months. For this purpose, the Government is facilitating setting up of charging stations.
