The company said in a statement that it is targeting smart mobility or automotive, logistics, smart infrastructure and smart utility segments and has already tied-up with a few companies while keeping open the possibility to explore more verticals in the future.

The telco added in a statement that as “the largest IoT player in India”, this new launch has further strengthened its portfolio by providing a comprehensive range of IoT solutions across industries for Smart Infrastructure, Smart Mobility and Smart Utilities, on its 5G-ready network. The statement further emphasized that with Vi’s new IoT solutions, an enterprise can now focus on its core strength, thus simplifying and accelerating IoT Innovation.

Abhijit Kishore, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Vodafone Idea Limited, said, “We are proud to be the first telecom company to offer end-to-end IoT offerings that address the marketplace needs of a reliable partner, scale, security and quick deployments. As a trusted partner, Vi Business is well placed to maximize the benefits of IoT enabled Industry 4.0 revolution in the country.”

“With new offerings, customers will be befitted from faster time to market, flexibility and scalability to save a lot of time. There will be a cost-benefit as well,” he added.

Vi’s IoT solutions will adopt a consulting-led engagement to support businesses in identifying their needs, design and develop the right IoT solution and implementation. It will also provide them with a tailored solution to be integrated with the best-in-class enterprise-grade IoT framework.

Kishore said that the telco has a “highly-skilled” team of IoT professionals, multi-industry knowledge and the ability to engage and deliver high impact IoT solutions, and it is utilizing its innovations lab to offer these IoT solutions.

On eyes on IoT

As per NASSCOM, the IoT market in India is worth $15 billion. As per a report by The Economic Times, India’s cellular connectivity-based IoT market can potentially see growth by Rs 10,000 crore by 2022.

Keeping this in mind, the teleco has naturally forayed into an intense market upon which other major telecom operators have also set their eyes.

Recently, Airtel also has launched Airtel IoT, the operator’s end-to-end 5G-ready IoT platform. Similarly, Reliance Jio has also delved into creating a comprehensive IoT solution with device, diagnostics, connectivity, platform and support, which it is expecting to launch very soon.

In a virtual conference, Kishore revealed that the company will also look at offering cloud services, adding that the company wants to get into three specific fields- IoT and its integrated space, the other one is in collaboration which includes a host of SaaS (software as a service), while the third one will be cloud services.

This, Kishore said, would help the company evolve from being a traditional connectivity player to become a connectivity plus collaboration plus IoT and integrated IoT and a cloud platform.

Kishore said that the company expects huge growth from integrated IoT solutions in the coming days.

Vi Business has also deployed a smart metering solution for one of the power distribution firms that remotely collect meter reading and also inform customers to buy cheaper power as per the consumption and load pattern.
