The six players working on the development of this park include Adani Green Energy Limited, Sarjan Realities, state-run National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), state-owned Gujarat State Electricity Corporation, Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited and central government’s Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)

India, on the electronics manufacturing front, has been catching attention of many countries including China. The government of the country, by launching Production Linked Incentive Schemes (PLIs) for almost everything electronics, has made it clear that the country not only intends to become self reliant in terms of electronics, but it also wants to make for the world. Now, the country is busy in developing a hybrid solar and wind energy park, that is already being touted as the biggest in the world.

Being developed at the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, this park envisages to generate 15 gigawatts of energy by the end of 2024. Once in full swing, the park will have the ability to generate 30GW of energy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while laying the foundation of this park in December 2020, had said that a total investment of about Rs 1.5 Lakh Crore would go into the development of the same. Point to note – this park is being developed very close to the border of Pakistan.

As a matter of fact, the area that this park is being developed on, lies on the land controlled by the Indian Army. The Print recently reported that a road that would connect the site from the India Bridge is under construction at the moment. Work on the park would begin as soon as that road gets completed.

It is also to be noted here that the current tag of world’s largest solar park belongs to a park located in Pavagada, Karnataka. Called the Pavagada Park, it supplies over 19 per cent of the total solar energy supplied in the country. Gujarat has received the highest amount of Central Financial Assistance (CFA) among all states and union territories for new and renewable energy generation till 10 February of the financial year 2019-20. These figures were revealed by power and renewable energy minister R K Singh.

Six players are working on the park

The six players working on the develoment of this park include Adani Green Energy Limited, Sarjan Realities, state-run National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), state-owned Gujarat State Electricity Corporation, Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited and central government’s Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

Adani Green Energy Limited has been allotted 19,000 hectares, Sarjan Realities 9,500 hectares, NTPC 9,500 hectares, Gujarat State Electricity Corporation 6,650 hectares, Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited 4,750 hectares and SECI 23,000 hectares.

This solar park in Kutch draws inspiration from the country’s first solar park which is located 290 kilometres away in Charanka village. The solar park in Charanka, which started by producing 215 MW has now grown to produce over 600 MW. About 32 developers are involved in this project.
