The Odisha government has developed a plan to make all public buildings, including the Odisha secretariat, energy efficient.
Essel Green, an arm of Subhash Chandra’s Essel Group, has fully commissioned 240 MW solar projects in Odisha. Â The developer had won the projects through a tender floated by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
The company commissioned two units of 40 MW each August last year and completed another four units of 40 MW each in December.
With the commissioning of the projects, power generated from non-conventional energy in Odisha has taken a quantum jump to 413 MW, an official of the company told Business Standard.
Out of the total 270 MW tender, SECI had awarded Odisha-based Jyoti Infrastructure 10 MW and IBC Solar Ventures India 20 MW. Â The two projects have been commissioned now.
All public buildings in Odisha may be powered by solar energy
The Odisha government has developed a plan to make all public buildings, including the Odisha secretariat, energy efficient. If things go as planned, the Odisha secretariat will soon be running solely on solar power.
The plan was discussed at a high-level meeting of the science and technology department held recently in the state.
During the meeting, top officials mulled over steps to make the secretariat an energy-efficient building before implementing the same in other public buildings in Odisha, reported the Times of India.
While the secretariat currently runs on solar rooftop panels, it draws most of its power from the Central Electricity Supply Utility of Odisha (CESU). The building reportedly consumes about 1,850 KW per month of which only 265 KW is generated from existing solar panels.
