CSoT Acquires All Samsung Display’s LCD Patents

South-Korean company Samsung Display moves on from LCD to massive production of mobile OLED panels.

With OLED TV panels taking over, production of LCD panels has reduced. After Samsung Display announced its quit from the LCD market, all of its patents have been sold to TCL’s manufacturing arm CSoT. 

China Star Optoelectronics Technology(CSoT), would be elevated to being one of the world’s largest manufacturer of LCD panels, especially after this acquisition of more than 2000+ patents related to LCD technology from Samsung Display. This shift in power has made TCL to be at the forefront of LCD TV development.It is also noteworthy that TCL was the first to introduce LCD TVs with a miniLED backlight in 2019.

On the other hand, Samsung Display and LG Display are the massive producers in terms of mobile OLED panels. Samsung Display is expected to increase QD-OLED production later this year.
