New manufacturing facilities in India (May 2013)

India’s manufacturing sector is set to take a giant leap, with the government announcing a slew of measures to boost domestic manufacturing output. As a result, various companies catering to different sectors such as consumer electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India.

New production facilities will help to develop many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement (T&M) devices, surface mount technology (SMT), and through-hole machines, etc.

Refu Solar Electronics Pvt Ltd

Inverters

Refu Solar Electronics Pvt Ltd, a German company, has set up its solar power inverter production plant in Pune to cater to the Indian, South Asian and West Asia markets. The company has invested Rs 10.5 million in the facility and plans to invest an additional Rs 350 million over the next three years. This facility in Pune will manufacture central inverters ranging from 333 KW to 1 MW.

ABB Group

Operations include:
Power and automation

ABB has opened its new production line at the ABB facility in Bengaluru. This line has been added to support the rapidly growing local photovoltaic (PV) market in India. The first orders from the new production line have been delivered already, and orders for generating power of over 200 MW have been booked. The new production line of ABB offers the central inverter PVS800 product range. The annual production capacity of the line is more than 500 MW.

Jakson Power Solutions

Operations include:
Power generation and distribution

Jakson Power Solutions has commissioned its first solar power plant in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. The 20 MW solar power plant has been set up with an investment of Rs 2000 million on approximately 100 acres of land. The project is expected to generate permanent employment for 100 people. The company has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with NVVN (NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited) for this project. The company has also acquired 250 acres of additional land at the same site to develop solar farms, and plans to scale up the capacity to 100 MW within the next three years.

National Thermal Power Corporation

Operations include:
Electricity generation and distribution

NTPC has commissioned its 5 MW solar power plant in the Dadri unit. The plant is the first solar project of the public sector company to be commissioned in the country. Built at a cost of Rs 485.9 million over an area of 27 acres, the plant is expected to generate around 7.26 million units of power every year. NTPC will sell the power generated from this solar plant to GRIDCO (Grid Corporation of Orissa Ltd).

Mitsubishi Electric India (MEI)

MEI has inaugurated an R&D centre in Pune to meet the Indian market’s demands. This is the fourth Mitsubishi R&D centre outside Japan that will support global products. MEI plans to increase the number of people in R&D from 30 to 150 in the coming year. It will develop basic technologies common to diverse factory automation needs in cooperation with Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation development centres worldwide.

ANERT

Operations include: Non-conventional energy

The Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT) will set up its
2 MW solar power plant at Kuzhalmannam in Palakkad (in Kerala) this year. With an estimated cost of Rs 240 million and spread over an area of 13 acres, this plant will produce about 10 million units of power every year to bridge the demand-supply gap in the state.
