Jain Group of Institutions (JGI), one of the leading educational group in India and US based Seer Akademi, a pioneer in engineering education and incubation have collaborated to form India’s advanced electronic laboratory, says indiaprwire.com report.
The laboratory will be one of a kind, modelled after premier facilities like ITRI in Taiwan and IMEC in Belgium, but adapted to the needs of Indian academia and industry. It is envisaged as a shared resource for all colleges/Universities and Corporate. With an initial investment of USD 15 million, the laboratory is likely to be India’s largest facility targeted at developing hands on skills in the area of electronics. There is a severe shortage of manpower in the field of electronics in the country at all levels – 2.8 million people are required by 2020 to meet the growing demand according to the department of electronics and Indian semiconductor association statistics.
The laboratory will be operational in August 2012 and offer programs in a broad range of Electronics & Computer Engineering disciplines such as VLSI, Embedded Systems, Telecommunications, Solar PV, Core Computer Science and Advanced Software Engineering/Information Technology. Many industry leading companies have come forward to work with the laboratory to build up the capabilities. Further, the laboratory will have an incubation facility targeting over a hundred incubations in the next few years.
“The Jain Group continues to innovate in education with this laboratory venture. We have identified this critical gap in ESDM education in the country and are responding to it,” says Dr R Chenraj Jain, chairman of the Jain Group. He further added, “We are attracting some of the best minds in the world to build this laboratory and have a lasting positive impact on the entire ecosystem.”
