With the National Manufacturing Policy Unveiled, various companies catering to different sectors, such as consumer and industrial electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy, are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India. Once implemented, the policy will unlock the true potential of manufacturing within the country, feel experts.
The mushrooming production facilities will help boost the development of many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement devices, Surface mount technology (SMT) and through-hole machines, etc.

NEC has announced its plans to establish a telecom equipment manufacturing unit in India by 2012. The new production unit for the compact microwave communications system, Pasolink, will be set up at the special economic zone of Chennai, as a part of NEC India, managed by NEC Network Products. The company will also expand its programme for local procurement of materials within India. Pasolink products are used to build backend infrastructure for telecommunication connectivity. AEG Power Solutions

AEG has inaugurated a new factory in Bengaluru, with an annual output capacity of 400 MW of inverters for solar photovoltaic (PV) based power generation. AEG PS will produce its PV250 and PV500 inverter series at the 7400 sq m factory, which will employ 150 workers. The company also plans to manufacture UPS systems at the facility. HAL plans to invest Rs 2 billion in its strategic electronics manufacturing unit in Kerala. The unit has been set up on 200 acres of land at the Kinfra Industrial Park, and will be inaugurated soon. Tata BP has added another megawatt scale solar power plant under the ‘Rooftop and Other Small Solar Power Generation Plant’ scheme in Orissa. The 1MW plant, which was connected to the grid recently, will generate 1.42 million units of electricity in the first year. Tata BP has also taken the contract to provide the operation and maintenance (O&M) services to the plant for the first 10 years, after commissioning.
