Energy Focus helps Munson Township’s fire department in achieving annual savings worth US$ 4000 through smart LED solutions
Objective
The current building of the Munson Township fire department, in Ohio, USA, which was built in 1976 for a force of volunteer fire fighters, now works 24/7. The outdated lighting technology and the insufficient lights had become a problem for a force that has to be on call at any time of the day and night. Apart from that, the fire fighters faced frequent light failures and the resulting maintenance costs were proving really high.
Challenges
The department was not sure which type of lights needed to be used, as five years earlier, it had installed metal halide fixtures and now wanted to replace them with better lights – those that did not hamper the force as it responded to emergency calls, but rather, would help it.
Solution
Energy Focus, A US based LED lighting company, helped Munson Township’s fire department to install LED tubelights to meet its needs. In the garage, T12 fluorescent fixtures were replaced with highly efficient LED 4cm tubelights. In common areas like the kitchen, bunks and the conference room, the T12 fluorescent fixtures were replaced by high efficiency T8 fluorescent tubelights.
These new lights save the fire department US$ 4000 annually in energy costs, due to an 8.98kW saving of power. Subsequently, energy savings have gone up to 28,577kWh. Currently, a high quality of light reaches the fire engines and even the servicemen’s corner is well lit, enabling proper rest and relaxation between calls.
