Volvo Reveals Upgraded Electric Medium-Duty Trucks Designed For City Use

As an increasing number of urban areas globally implement eco-friendly city zones, and businesses enhance their commitment to sustainability, the demand for zero-emission trucks capable of handling city transport and logistics has never been higher. Responding to this need, Volvo Trucks has unveiled its latest electric medium-duty vehicles – the Volvo FL and FE – designed to cater to these evolving urban requirements.

The Volvo FL and FE, tailored for various urban tasks like distribution, waste management, and construction, have been offered electric versions since 2019, available across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

These battery-electric medium-duty trucks now feature an enhanced AC charging capacity of 43 kW, reducing battery charging times by about half. With the latest battery updates, they boast a range of up to 450km on a single charge.

Jessica Sandstrom, Volvo Trucks’ Head of Product Management, feels that they are continually refining their electric truck lineup, leading the market in this segment and The enhanced Volvo FL and FE models are perfect for businesses prioritizing sustainability, offering diverse applications to their clientele.

Safety is paramount in the Volvo FL and FE series, with new features enhancing protection for both drivers and pedestrians. The trucks sport a fresh design, including a new front, striking LED headlights, and prominent Volvo branding.

Additionally, all Volvo FL and FE powertrain options, including electric, gas, and diesel, have received upgrades, making them more suited for contemporary urban business needs.

Key updates to the Volvo FL and FE include:

  • Slimmer exterior mirrors for better direct visibility.
  • An interior revamp with new LED lighting and secure storage.
  • Options for a 360-degree camera or side-view camera.
  • An updated key fob with enhanced functions.
  • A new electric power take-off interface in the electric models streamlines bodybuilding and reduces weight.
  • It has enhanced safety systems like Vulnerable Road User Detection, Side Collision Avoidance Support, and Driver Alert Support.

With their extended electric range, faster charging, and advanced safety features, Volvo’s latest medium-duty electric trucks are ideally suited for safe, zero-emission urban transport and logistics.
