As per several reports, Ola is scouting for multiple sites across major cities in India and several locations in Europe to build a network of charging stations for electric two-wheelers as per sources. It had recently announced signing an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government to set up its first electric scooter factory in the state.

Create almost 10,000 jobs

In May this year, Ola Electric announced the acquisition of Amsterdam-based Etergo BV for an undisclosed amount to accelerate its engineering and design capabilities in the electric vehicle (EV) space. It had also announced plans to hire over 2,000 people for its electric business.

It said that the Tamil Nadu factory will cater to customers not only in India but in markets around the world including Europe, Asia, Latin America, and more. It is gearing up to launch the first of its range of electric scooters in the coming months. Upon completion, the factory will create almost 10,000 jobs and initially have an annual capacity of two million units.

Recently, Ola appointed former General Motors executive Jose Pinheiro as head of global manufacturing and operations for its electric business. A statement said that in this role, Pinheiro will spearhead Ola’s ambitions to build world-class manufacturing facilities. This will start from starting with the world’s largest scooter factory, and then expanding to multiple such facilities across India. It added that these manufacturing facilities will enable Ola to rapidly bring to market its wide range of two-wheeler products currently under development.
