This collaboration represents the first of its kind in the Indian Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) sector, bringing together two leading Indian entities with a shared ambition to revolutionize the operational landscapes of ports, factories, and long-haul transportation.

Minus Zero, a startup specializing in autonomous driving technology, has forged a significant strategic partnership with Ashok Leyland, a key player in the Indian commercial vehicle manufacturing sector and the flagship company of the Hinduja Group. This collaboration is set to embark on a long-term mission to transform the landscape of commercial trucking by implementing autonomous solutions on a large scale.

The partnership will initially concentrate on devising customized autonomous trucking solutions specifically designed for ports, factory operations, and corporate campuses. As the collaboration progresses, there are plans to venture into hub-to-hub applications and long-haul trucking, contingent upon the evolving regulatory frameworks pertaining to autonomous driving.

At the heart of this alliance lies the seamless integration of Minus Zero’s groundbreaking autonomous driving platform, which is distinguished by its innovative nature-inspired AI technology, into the fleet of commercial vehicles manufactured by Ashok Leyland. By combining Ashok Leyland’s renowned product portfolio and safety standards with Minus Zero’s expertise in self-driving technology, the collaboration is poised to ensure a safe and scalable adoption of autonomous driving in commercial vehicles.

In the previous year, Minus Zero showcased the capabilities of its autonomous driving platform through a purpose-built vehicle, zPod, in a controlled environment. As global regulations and infrastructure continue to evolve in favour of autonomous driving, this collaboration holds the potential to expand and offer joint product offerings to international markets.

Gagandeep Reehal, CEO and Co-founder of Minus Zero expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Ashok Leyland, highlighting their decades of experience in delivering high-quality products at scale. He mentioned that the collaboration aims to accelerate autonomous driving in India and globally, with Minus Zero’s nature-inspired AI bringing a paradigm shift by building foundational AI models for autonomous driving. Reehal noted that this partnership signifies the beginning of India’s autonomous driving story.

N Saravanan, Chief Technology Officer of Ashok Leyland, shared that the company has been exploring ways to reduce logistics costs in India in line with the Government’s National Logistics Policy. He stated that autonomous driving could play a role in select sectors to achieve this goal, and Ashok Leyland has been partnering with pioneering startups in this area. Saravanan was impressed by Minus Zero’s capabilities and plans and is excited to work with them to develop India-specific solutions that can be scaled globally. He also anticipates spin-off benefits in developing cost-effective active safety solutions to reduce road accidents.
