Jio Phones success will boost Spreadtrum’s revenue by 25 per cent in FY18, says Neeraj Sharma

After bagging the contract of manufacturing chipsets for Jio Phones, Shanghai-based mobile device chip maker company Spreadtrum said that the company is hoping to see an increase of close to 25 percent in its revenue with Jio Phones success in the next fiscal year. During a candid interaction with Electronics Bazaar, Neeraj Sharma, country communication head, Spreadtrum, has confirmed that “With Jio Phones success, the company is expecting up to 25 percent growth in their revenue in FY18.”

Commenting on the partnership with Reliance, Neeraj highlighted that this is not the first time they are collaborating. “We are the technology partner of Reliance and working with the company on SoC part. Well, this is not a new collaboration for us. Prior to this, several model of FLAME series were based on Spreadtrum only.” he added.

The company believes that in Indian market their growth is mainly driven from both 4G smartphones and feature phones and therefore they are trying to introduce more SoCs for this market.

The company is tapping the IoT trend by setting up a separate team in China and India who will held discussions with IoT players across the world. Neeraj said that for Indian consumers ready to offer IoT solutions in terms of data connectivity and location based services. He further stated, “ In India our IoT based solutions will mainly remain M2M which we will implement in smart meters. And the other area where we will focus will be automobile tracking because that is going to be mandatory for commercial vehicles in coming years.”

Apart from Jio, Spreadtrum is also engaged with four-five other domestic and global device makers. Neeraj informed that with all the new tie-ups, LTE feature phones will remain the trend and will soon launch 4G feature phones with because today’s market is totally driven by such phones.
