IESA Awardee Invites Organisation to Establish Defence Incubation Centres

IESA’s Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Award recipient, Dr Satheesh Reddy, highlighted the importance of the trade organisation’s role in the Make in India initiative

Dr G Satheesh Reddy, the winner of India Electronics and Semiconductor Association’s (IESA) most prestigious Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Award, invited the trade body to facilitate Incubation Centres in various parts of India.

Applauding the trade body for setting up Centres in the North Eastern states, he said, “IESA has played an important role in developing the electronic industries in the area of semiconductors and electronics.” Through telepresence, he added that although the country was in a nascent stage in case of chip designing, it was gradually becoming a design hub for global leaders in the electronics industry.

Dr Reddy, who is designated as the Secretary in Department of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D), Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri, has been bestowed with the award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the defence sector in India.

IESA partnership

The Electronics and Semiconductor Association has partnered with various government organisations to set up Incubation centres in the country. Some of these are  MeitY, ISRO, DRDO. The trade body’s collaboration with the ministry of defence, ISRO and National Institute of Technology, Agartala (NITA) aims to boost electronics design and manufacturing facilitate entrepreneurship and innovation with the focus on startups and SMEs.

Speaking at the two-day summit, SPACETRONICS & DEFTRONICS 2018, organized recently by IESA, Anil Kumar Muniswamy, Chairman IESA and MD, SLN Technologies talked about IESA’s support towards the startups. “IESA has always been encouraging start-ups who have scaled up as well as brought in innovative ideas to the table as well as well-established companies who continue to help in the growth of ESDM ecosystem.” He also congratulated Dr Reddy for conferring IESA with the charter of developing Defence Incubation Centres in various part of the country.

The summit was a platform to explore the potential of the Indian Space Research sector and had awards for outstanding contribution in innovation and excellence in the electronics and design services ecosystem in Space Technology, Avionics and Defence Industry.

IESA is committed to building global awareness for the Indian ESDM industry and supporting its growth through focused initiatives in developing the ecosystem. It works closely with the Governments as a knowledge partner on the sector, both at the centre and at the state level.

The awardee highlighted the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative that aims to develop electronic equipment locally and mark the country’s presence globally in the electronics design and manufacturing sector.
