The company recently added AOI/AXI systems to its line. Here, L. Sampath, director of EMST Marketing, talks about its capabilities and the Indian electronics scene.

EFY: How has been 2012 going for EMST, so far, as far as the electronics industry in India is concerned?

L. Sampath: So far, the year has been quite slow. New projects are going slow due to market slag. The SMEs are facing delays on their bank proposals.

EFY: Elaborate on the Indian electronics manufacturing scene. What are your thoughts on the way forward for the industry?

L. Sampath: Electronics manufacturing in India is quite skewed. We have only a few segments having reasonable production volume, such as LED lighting, CFL, UPS, etc. However, the volume in the other segments are not that good. Unless there is an overall volume increase in other segments also, growth will be limited.

EFY: What new machines has EMST brought in this year and why?

L. Sampath: We are introducing a new range of automatic optical inspection systems (AOIs) and automated x-ray inspection (AXIs) systems in the Indian market. These are from Goepel, Germany, and are coming from ‘city of optics’, Jena, which is very famous for lens and other optical products.

Both of these systems are high end in-line machines with exclusive features to cover both SMT and thru-hole inspection. For that matter, Goepel has recently added EMST as the new AOI/AXI systems distributor in India.

EFY: What are the salient features of the Schleuniger CrimpCenter 36?

L. Sampath: Schleuniger has introduced the upgraded model of its fast moving CrimpCenter 36 called CrimpCenter 36S. This upgraded model increases the flexibility of the machine and also incorporates many feedback from the present users, making it one of the best model for auto wire harness.

With a capability of taking six stations, the CC36S is the only machine in its range, offering high performance to cost ratio.

EFY: What are the USPs of the fully automatic stencil printers from GKG Precision Machine?

L. Sampath: Now, GKG is a leading printer manufacturer from China with high quality standards and has been selling all over the world through its Singapore subsidiary.

There is no other machine in the market, which can offer such high speed printing and in its price range. The model G5 is proven performer now and is working in line with almost all leading brands of high speed chip shooter.

The reliability of machine is proven not only outside but also inside India, thanks to high quality Japanese /European parts used in the machine.

EFY: How does the selective soldering machine from Zipa-Tec stand out?

L. Sampath: The selective soldering machine from Zipa-Tec stands out mainly on the grounds of cost. In comparison to the other brands, Zipatec models are cheaper, but still, they come with German technology, reliability and ruggedness. Also, they have a wide range, from standalone small machines to high-end in-line machines.

EFY: How do you forsee the Indian electronics industry, moving forward in 2013?

L. Sampath: We have high hopes for the next year, as this year there is not going to be anything great. Overall, the industry performance is not bright and we look forward to some stimuli towards second half of this year, which may reflect in next year’s improvement.
