The initial focus will be on the creation of quantum generative AI models to speed up the discovery of new molecules.

D-Wave Quantum Inc., the world’s first commercial supplier of quantum computers, has entered into a strategic multi-year partnership with Zapata AI, a generative AI software company. The collaboration is aimed at developing and marketing commercial applications that harness both generative AI and quantum computing technologies.

Leveraging quantum-enabled machine learning algorithms, these applications will use D-Wave’s quantum technology capabilities, particularly its coherent quantum annealing with more than 5,000 qubits, to surpass the limitations of current classical computers. The initial focus will be on the creation of quantum generative AI models to accelerate the discovery of new molecules.

Through this partnership, Zapata AI will have access to D-Wave’s sophisticated Advantage annealing quantum computing systems, quantum-hybrid solvers, and development tools. This will speed up the development of commercial applications and provide the necessary production access and resources to deliver these applications to Zapata’s clientele. The collaboration entails joint go-to-market strategies, which will feature the exclusive offering of the commercial applications through a solver hosted on D-Wave’s Leap real-time quantum cloud service.

Dr. Christopher Savoie, CEO and co-founder of Zapata AI said, “By combining forces, we are accelerating quantum plus AI development that we believe will unlock previously unattainable value for customers.”

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave,  stressed the shared vision of both companies to expedite the exploration, adoption, and commercial utilization of emerging technologies, fostering innovation and transformation. Together, D-Wave and Zapata AI aim to pioneer the commercial era of quantum machine learning.
