Automotive Sub-pF varistors for ultra-low capacitance.
A new series of automotive sub-pF varistors has been introduced by AVX. Based on reliable proven zinc-oxide varistor technology, the AEC-Q200-qualified AG Series varistors provide ultra-low capacitance, bi-directional ESD protection in the sub-1pF range for automotive circuits sensitive to capacitance. Featuring a capacitance value of 0.8pF in a compact and low-profile 0402 package, the new AG Series varistors exhibit excellent response times to ESD strikes, protecting sensitive circuits – including modern automotive high-speed information systems, touch controls and displays, and RF applications – from over voltage.
Jiri Machanicek, technical marketing manager, AVX, said, “As a leader in circuit protection products, AVX continuously strives to meet market demands by both improving current products and developing new series. The Automotive Sub pF AG Series was developed in response to new information processing technologies, which demand ever-increasing digital system speeds and, consequently, require the use of ultra-low capacitance values in order to minimize signal distortion.”
The varistors exhibit high reliability and low insertion losses, offer multi-strike capability and are RoHS-compliant. Featuring a working voltage range of up to 16V, a capacitance of 0.8pF with a tolerance of ±20 per cent, and Ni barrier/100 per cent Sn terminations, AG Series varistors are ideal for a range of applications including: antennas, RF circuits, optics, HDMI, Firewire, Thunderbolt, high-speed communication bus, GPS, camera link, sensors, and touchscreen interfaces, among others, says the company.
