The CSC, as part of the association, will start appointing Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs). More than 4.7 lakh VLEs and 4.5 lakh CSCs are already operational across the country

Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd (MEML) has collaborated with Common Service Centres (CSC) to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in rural India. The latter is a government organisation. This duo will be working together to offer a range of electric vehicles like the Treo and Alfa to customers based in the rural market.

“This tie-up will help us to penetrate rural markets and propagate the use of electric vehicles, thereby helping India achieve its EV mission quicker,” said MEML’s Chief Executive Officer Suman Mishra.

Mishra added, “The earning ability with the company’s three-wheelers is quite high while the maintenance is the lowest when compared to conventional fuel vehicles and the benefit to the environment is significant.”

Village Level Entrepreneurs

The CSC, as part of the association, will start appointing Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs). These VLEs in turn will help in facilitating a smoother operation for the sale and service of electric vehicles in the rural part of the country. The VLEs are being seen as a connection between the customers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The appointed teams will also be spreading awareness about the EV sector government initiatives in the villages.

More than 4.7 lakh VLEs and 4.5 lakh CSCs are already operational across the country. The India electric vehicle market, as per Mordor Intelligence, was valued at USD 5.47 Billion in 2020, and it is expected to reach USD 17.01 Billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 23.47 per cent over the forecast period (2021-2026).

As per the phased manufacturing proposal, the government has imposed 15 per cent customs duty on parts that are used to manufacture electric vehicles and 10 per cent on imported lithium-ion cells. The revised duty under PMP has been proposed from April 2021.
