IIT-B’s Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri Selected For ACCS Award 2021

The award recognizes his outstanding research in the area of Computer Vision and Computational photography

ACCS, The Advanced Computing and Communications Society (ACCS) has announced Indian Institute of Technology Bombay’s Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri as the winner of the ACCS Award for the year 2021.

Prof. Chaudhuri is an Indian electrical engineer and director at IIT Bombay. The Award recognizes his outstanding research in the area of Computer Vision and Computational photography.

He earned his graduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering in 1985. He then moved to Canada to obtain a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary in 1987 and joined the University of California, San Diego for his doctoral studies. After securing his PhD in 1990, he returned to India and started his career at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay as an assistant professor.

Dr H. P. Khincha, Professor Emeritus at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, said, “Prof. Chaudhuri’s leadership in computer vision will significantly aid the development of faster algorithms in Machine Learning.”

Prof. S. Sadagopan, former Director of the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB) added, “Prof. Chaudhuri’s research in video analysis of social gathering can be helpful in behavioural profiling.”

ACCS, a partner society of the IEEE Computer Society, is a registered scientific society in India founded to provide a forum to individuals, institutions and industry to promote and disseminate their innovative and pioneering work in Computing and Communications Sciences.

Each year, the executive council of the ACCS invites eminent persons from the field to nominate professionals, who have made exceptional contributions in computing and communications industry, academia, and research laboratories. The winner is selected from among the nominees by a panel of experts.

The award instituted in 2004, by the ACCS and the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), fosters the development and dissemination of theories and applications of computing and communications sciences.
