India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), the premier industry body representing the Indian electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) industry, has announced its new executive council (EC) for the year 2016-17. K. Krishna Moorthy, corporate VP and MD, Rambus Chip Technologies (I) Pvt Ltd, who was earlier the vice chairman for 2015-16, has taken over the role of chairman for 2016-17.  Ashwini K. Aggarwal, director, government affairs at Applied Materials India Pvt Ltd, will be the new vice chairman of IESA. Anilkumar Muniswamy, director, SLN Technologies Pvt Ltd, will serve as the new treasurer.
IESA is committed to building global awareness for the Indian ESDM industry and supporting its growth through focused initiatives in developing the ecosystem. This is through publishing credible data, organising networking events and by building alliances with other international associations. IESA has been instrumental in working with the central and state governments to bring out favourable policies to enable the Indian electronics and semiconductor sector. Its various initiatives have worked in creating awareness among policymakers regarding certain challenges faced by the industry. And by working closely with the policy framers, the association has helped the industry overcome numerous impediments to growth. Of late, IESA has been aggressively working towards new government initiatives like ‘Make in India’, ‘Start-up India’ and ‘Digital India’ and has offered valuable consultation services to international companies that have shown interest to set up electronics facilities in India. The new executive council (EC) will continue working towards achieving the vision laid down collectively by the association member community.
The EC will focus on accelerating design-led electronics manufacturing in the country with a special thrust in the areas of aerospace and defence, consumer electronics and industrial electronics. It will also facilitate innovations in IoT solutions and support ESDM startups through skills development programmes. IESA and Software Technology Park of India (STPI) have played a key role in establishing startup clusters like the Electropreneur Park in Delhi. The same model will be replicated in other states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
