Top 10 SMT players in India–2013

By Richa Chakravarty

India is a market with a high demand for electronics across different verticals. The electronics industry is also witnessing significant growth—to a degree not seen before. Moreover, the recent government initiatives to boost electronics manufacturing will certainly translate to sustainable growth, pushing for higher sales and revenues for the SMT industry. Therefore, the Indian market, with its immense potential, is lucrative for the SMT companies—both domestic as well as the MNCs.

India’s SMT equipment market has the potential to grow even if only a single vertical contributes to its demand. However, looking at the current business scenario, industry experts feel the immediate driver of the Indian SMT industry will be the LED vertical, besides telecommunications, automobiles and consumer electronics.

Electronics Bazaar has attempted to rank the SMT companies operating in India, based on their revenue for FY 2011-12. Some players could not be included in the ranking, as they were unable to provide the revenue figures earned from their India operations.

The revenues of the top 10 companies clearly show that despite the potential, the SMT business is not too encouraging. And presently, with less of manufacturing happening in India and the number of SMT vendors increasing in India, the limited business is getting divided between a growing number of distributors. However, with each vendor offering reputed brands, all have their own unique selling propositions.
