Telpo will integrate the fingerprint modules of NEXT into its point-of-sale terminals that are meant for the Indian market

NEXT Biometrics, a leading provider in fingerprint sensor technology, announced on Thursday that it has got an order from Chinese communications equipment company Telepower Communication Co Ltd (Telpo) for supplying fingerprint sensor modules.

Telpo will integrate the fingerprint modules of NEXT into its point-of-sale (POS) terminals that are meant for the Indian market, where it is increasing its market base.

The first shipment of the sensor modules is likely to delivered at the end of this year. In the coming quarters, the company is estimated to supply several hundred thousand of units.

Increasing demand

Speaking on the development, Ritu Favre, CEO, NEXT Biometrics, “NEXT continues to see increased demand for our large-area fingerprint sensor technology from leading companies around the world for a broad set of applications. The security and convenience provided by NEXT’s sensor modules make them an ideal solution for the type of handheld point-of-sale terminals Telpo has developed.”

The sensors by NEXT have got the certification from Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India and Standardisation Testing Qualification and Certification (STQC) Directorate. Telpo is planning to provide the PoS devices to a variety of clients in India. The devices will majorly be used for government applications.

Focus on Indian Market

Sunny Sun, General Manager, International Business, Telpo, said, “The company’s design strengths and outstanding production capabilities are a good complement to NEXT’s unique fingerprint sensor technology and background as a proven supplier. The use of biometric POS terminals in India is expected to grow significantly and we believe we have the right products and technologies to capture that growth moving forward.”

The deal with Telpo is a part of NEXT Biometrics focus on the Indian market. In June this year, AqTronics, a supplier of NEXT in Indian market, got hardware accreditation to provide unique fingerprint sensor solution of NEXT to Indian government’s Aadhaar ID program.
