“By 2022, smartphone users are expected to more than double to 650 million, elevating average data usage by over five times to 18 GB per month,” said EY.

“By 2022, India is expected to transform into a Gigabit society where the businesses and citizens will equally get benefitted from the widespread faster broadband services and reliable performance provided by strong future-proof fixed as well as mobile technologies,” the firm said in a statement.

A study by KPMG-IMC also highlighted the same scenario by stating that India’s digital economy is likely to touch $1 trillion by 2022 and $1.8 trillion by 2025. Mobile data usage in the country is likely to further increase by five times by 2023.
