Vedanta Proposes India’s First Electronics Hub; Invites Japanese Investment

Gujarat to pioneer electronics manufacturing; seeks partnership with Japan for an $80-billion opportunity.

Vedanta Limited, a leader in the global electronics sphere, has paved the way for India’s first major electronics manufacturing hub in Gujarat. This strategic move on Tuesday, in alignment with Gujarat’s initiative, beckons Japanese giants to tap into India’s flourishing electronics demand, rooted in the government’s nationwide digital campaigns.

Vedanta, spearheaded by Ani Agarwal, is championing an “electronics manufacturing revolution” in India. As part of this vision, Akarsh K Hebbar, their global managing director, extended an invitation to Japanese industry magnates during an influential two-day event in Tokyo and Osaka.

Drivers of Demand India’s electronics appetite is surging, thanks to governmental programs like Make in India and Digital India. “These initiatives aim to escalate local manufacturing and promote technology’s deep integration across sectors,” commented Hebbar. Further compounding this growth is the nation’s burgeoning internet usage and embrace of e-commerce. With its vast population exceeding 1.4 billion, India’s landscape poses a lucrative market for global electronics enterprises.

The Gujarat Proposition Dholera,  is poised to host a state-of-the-art semiconductor chip facility. Hebbar emphasized the hub’s potential, projecting its capacity to magnetize countless businesses and generate over a lakh jobs. He asserted, “Vedanta stands as a beacon for Japanese corporations eager to capitalize on India’s $80-billion electronics sector.”

Strengthening Ties The synergy between Vedanta and Japan isn’t recent. With AvanStrate Inc., part of Vedanta’s conglomerate, being based in Japan, the bond has only strengthened. In the previous year, Vedanta sealed deals with 30 Japanese tech behemoths, further fueling India’s semiconductor and display manufacturing progression.
