AMU adopts solar power in association with CleanMax Solar

Aligarh Muslim University, one of the oldest and most renowned educational institutes in the country, has adopted solar power in association with CleanMax Solar, India’s largest rooftop solar developer.

Built in collaboration with SECI and MNRE, a rooftop plant of 1.5 MW has been installed across 17 roofs at the campus, and will provide 10 per cent of the university’s electricity. The solar plant will reduce emissions from grid power and backup diesel generators, and will abate 2069 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Kuldeep Jain, Managing Director, CleanMax Solar said that since 2011, CleanMax Solar has commissioned more than 200 projects in the country across sectors such as automotive, IT, educational institutes, manufacturing, government buildings, among others. He notified that the institutional clients include Manipal Education and Medical Group, National Institute of Technolog, Surathkal (NITK), Pune University, and other leading educational institutions across India.

He further expressed his honour to be associated with a distinguished educational institute like Aligarh Muslim University, which occupies a unique and important position in the educational sector in India.

Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University said that adopting rooftop solar energy is both a socially conscious and a financially prudent move for AMU and that they are extremely happy to be associated with CleanMax Solar to implement sustainable and green technology in the campus.

The plant installed in association with CleanMax Solar will be operated and maintained for a period of 25 years. Dr. Mohd Rihan, Convener of the University’s Green Campus project said that this initiative will assist them in saving approximately INR 36 lacs each year, without any requirement for investment from the university.
