VW’s Flagship Electric Model ID.7 Rolls into Production

  • The ID.7 is the latest addition to VW’s electric lineup, following the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6, and ID.Buzz.
  • European customers can anticipate the ID.7 this fall, while the North American release is slated for 2024.

Volkswagen reinforced its flagship electric car, the ID.7’s production at its Emden plant in Germany. The most recent addition, the ID.7 is now the sixth model in Volkswagen’s ID electric lineup, trailing the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6 (exclusive to China), and the ID.Buzz electric van.

ID.7 promises a paradigm shift in EV performance. The Pro version, powered by a 77 kWh battery, boasts an impressive range of up to 382 miles, while a forthcoming ID.7 Pro S variant will stretch this even further to 435 miles, thanks to an 86 kWh battery.

With ten more electric vehicles in the pipeline through 2026, including a competitively priced model at less than 25,000 euros and a fresh electric compact SUV, it’s clear that Volkswagen’s electric ambitions show no signs of slowing down.

Thomas Shafer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, stated, “The ID.7 is a top car from a top team. A big compliment to all our colleagues in Emden who have been so active in making the start of production a complete success. Thanks, everyone for your commitment!”

Described by the German automaker as an “efficiency champion”, the ID.7 is not just about long-range capabilities. Its design, including an aerodynamically optimized front, coupe-like roof, and an almost fully enclosed underbody, highlights Volkswagen’s focus on efficiency, advanced technology, and comfort.

European enthusiasts can expect the ID.7 to hit the roads this fall. Volkswagen’s leap into the electric era isn’t just about new models but also infrastructure. The company has funnelled over a billion euros (approx. $1.1 billion) into transforming the Emden plant, prepping it for the electric revolution.
