Tata has invested rs 23.93 billion in renewable energy generation!

Wednesday, May 29, 2013: Tata Power, the largest integrated power utility provider in India said on Tuesday that until March 2013, it has been able to generate 796 MUs of wind energy and 49.83 MUs of solar power. The company has been operating in various projects all over the country.

The multinational, with its sustainable power initiatives is bound to produce 20-25 per cent of its power requirements from sustainable energy sources. Next year onwards, the company is planning to add installations capable of generating 150-200 MW of wind power and 30-50 MWW of solar energy. The total investment they have made so far in renewable energy generation is about Rs 2,393 crore.

The total capacity of clean power generated by Tata now stands at an astounding 873 MW. This includes power generated through hydro, solar and wind resources. Tata is also the leading manufacturer of solar power with 28 MW operational capacity. The solar panel installations have been made in Mithapur in Gujarat (25 MW), Mulshiin in Maharashtra (3 MW) and various rooftop installations. This was revealed by Mr. Anil Sardana, the MD of Tata Power.

The Mithapur is also the largest project of its kind developed by Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (a 100 per cent subsidiary) through a MoU signed with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. The project will help reduce 37,696 tons of CO2 annually and produce an equivalent 39,597 MW of clean power. Another 28.8 MW plant is under construction in Satara, Maharashtra.

Tata Power’s wind energy installations are spread in five states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka. Another 21 MW wind energy installation was finalized for Rajasthan recently. Many of the company’s energy projects are registered under UNFCCC.
