Friday, August 30, 2013: With the aim of promoting clean energy, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), the biggest state-run power producer has started the assessment of conventional and alternate sources of energy. According to Arup Roy Choudhary, chairman and managing director, NTPC, the company has chalked out business plan for the purpose of capacity addition of nearly 1,000MW through renewable resources by the year 2017.

“We have already commissioned 10 MW Solar PV Projects and another 85 MW Solar PV while 8 MW small hydro projects are under implementation. About 70 MW solar projects are under tendering process. In the long run, by 2032, about 9 per cent of the installed capacity is expected to be based on renewable sources of energy,” said Choudhary as per a Business Today report.

Moreover, the company is looking forward to capacity expansion plans entailing diversified fuel-mix including coal, gas, hydro, renewable and nuclear energy for the 12th Plan period (2012-17). The goal set by the company is of 14,038MW capacity. More than 4,170MW has been commissioned.

Apart from this, it also entire units at NTPC generating stations.
