Monday, September 29, 2014: Government buildings, covered under NDMC, are going to have roof-top solar plants, which are expected to generate up to 12MW solar power in next three years. The confirmation about the power generation capacity came from NDMC area MP Meenakshi Lekhi.
As told to PTI, the target is to generate 12MW power through the roof-top solar panels and the entire process may take around three years. The first 1MW power generation capacity is possible to be achieved by October-November. This roof-top panels’ generated power will be transferred to the main power grid. Lekhi also admitted that the requirement of this area is much more than the targeted quantity. But still if this target is achieved then it will contribute to the requirement to a large extent and the total cost will also be subsidised.
Lekhi added, all the government buildings under NDMC or New Delhi Municipal Council, will install solar panels on the roof-tops and as a new model is being followed, the aggregator will bear the installation cost. Smartgrids will transfer the solar power to the main grid. The MP is also interested in generating bio-gas power through ‘Waste to Energy’ scheme and talks are on with a company to make tiles out of it. Lekhi said talks on biogas related projects are on with both a Netherlands-based and an India-based company.
