kerala solarFriday, January 17, 2014: At first, the Kerala State Government had announced its plan to set up about 10,000 rooftop solar panels by the end of 2012. To get more solar panels they prepared a target of 25,000 such panels in the 2013-2014 period.

However, as per records the agency for non-conventional energy and rural technology has been able to install only 6,600 rooftop solar panels till date. These are producing the power supply of 1KW to only 1,000 consumers.

As per the Power Minister, this delay in the work will deprive the state off Rs 13.93 crore, which was calculated for setting up of 25,000 solar panels in the 2013-14 budget plan. In an official letter the minister replied that the central government would not hand over the amount of 25,000 solar panels to the state, until they do not meet the target of completing the installation of rest of the solar panels planned in the 2012.

It has also been said that the State Government has planned to release an amount of 39,000 to 3,600 applicants. As per ANERT, the government, along with the solar power agency, has planned to set up 25,000 solar power units in the financial years 2012-13 and 2013-14. They have also announced a subsidy.

Till date the state government has been able to set up only 6,600 units out of the declared 10,000 units from the target of 2012. It’s an uphill task for the government to complete their target of setting up all 10,000 solar power units first.
