The Union Government is studying the viability of a mega project submitted by Kerala, which will be a big boost to the state in the manufacturing sector. The mega industrial infrastructure project, Kochi-Palakkad National Investment & Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) is a Rs 53,825 crore investment and the Union Government is waiting for some more details about the project from the state.

“The Centre has now asked some more details from the State Government in the prescribed format for giving clearance to the project. This has been prepared and is being submitted to the Centre,” Kerala State Minister for Industries and IT P. K. Kunhalikutty said. The project report for the NIMZ, was prepared by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC). This will be the showpiece project of the Emerging Kerala Global Connect event, during the month of September at Kochi.  The project is to be executed in PPP mode and it is estimated that the scheme will generate five lakh direct employment over a period of five years, and indirect employment of 25 lakh in 10 years.
