Magenta Power will deploy EV billing meters at all the six charging stations of the company that are already in operation

Magenta Power, a leading provider of EV charging infrastructure solutions in India, has installed India’s first EV billing meter at its electronic vehicle’s charging station in Navi Mumbai, Mahasrashtra. The billing meter is installed with the support of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) and the MAITRI programme.

Commenting on the development, Maxson Lewis, Director, Magenta Power said that it is one of its kind initiatives in the country. This will now open up opportunities to set up charging points under the EV support programme. The idea behind such initiative is to make the charging experience across the country as convenient as possible. Though the setting up of meter is only a small step, but it will play a significant role in India’s EV journey.

Magenta Power will deploy such EV billing meters at all the six charging stations of the company that are already in operation. In addition, the company is also planning to introduce a number of new charging stations on various important highways under the scheme of EV billing meters.

Govt policies to support EV infrastructure

The Government of India has set an ambitious target to go all-electric by 2032. To achieve this target, the Government has put in place several policies that can encourage acceptance of electric vehicles. This includes the policy for EV charging metering at subsidised rates.

Several states such as Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana published their own policies related to EV, offering subsidised power rates. However, there have been no EV billing meters in place at the charging stations till now. The EV charging stations are connected to the base meters that resulted in higher rates for consumers.

Aim to expand stations in more cities

Magenta Power became the first solution provider by installing a solar-powered EV charging station in Navi Mumbai in June 2018. The charging station, called Magenta Charging Station-3, is meant for charging four-wheelers. The company is aiming to expand operations to other cities and to install charging stations for two-wheelers also.
