Aiming to use power from renewable energy for its business, private dairy firm Hatsun Agro Product today said it has commissioned wind power plants with 24 megawatt (MW) capacity in Tuticorin district in Tamil Nadu.
Besides, the company is also likely to commission a solar power plant with 550 kilowatt (KW) capacity this month in Dindigul district in Tamil Nadu.
The green energy projects will help Hatsun Agro meet 75 per cent of its power requirements.
According to PTI, the company said in a statement that the wind and solar projects cost about Rs 1800 million and are expected to generate around 73 million units of electricity per annum which will be utilised for captive consumption. These wind and solar projects are part of Hatsun Agro’s ongoing efforts to promote the use of clean and green energy sources.
Hatsun Agro also added that the eco-friendly projects are an integral part of the firm’s effort to create a sustainable environment by reducing CO2 emissions of 36,000 tonnes annually. The operational life of the project will be around 25 years.
According Hatsun Agro chairman and managing director R G Chandramogan, the plants will result in substantial savings in energy costs in the long term for the company and in our own way contribute to building a greener India.
