Semtech’s LoRa Connect™ helps CWD Ltd’s Dual Combo Module Connecting IoT Devices to provide global LoRaWAN® network coverage

India’s leading IoT-specialized technology company CWD Limited recently developed a dual combo module for IoT device connectivity, with the help of Semtech Corporation LoRa Connect™ platform and the LoRaWAN® standard connectivity. By incorporating these as well as Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE), CWD optimized high data rate and long-range wireless communication IoT device connectivity.

The CWD CBTLRM02 dual combo module is used in smart utility meters and wearables with Semtech’s LoRa Connect (SX1262) System on Chip (SoC) for communication in the 150MHz to 960MHz bands for LoRa® combined with BLE for the 2.4GHz ISM band. As per the statement, this provides an extended range at extremely low power to enable a multitude of applications such as asset tracking, agriculture sensors, and industrial automation. Moreover, the external MCU and antennas are not needed once the software stack and business logic are on-boarded, hence cutting product bill of materials costs.

Chief strategy officer at CWD, Siddhartha Xavier commented, “With the dual wireless capabilities of LoRaWAN and BLE, the CWD module makes any IoT device extremely power efficient while also providing an extensively rich feature set. Our recent deployments have underscored the capabilities of LoRa devices, known for long range, low power, and LoRaWAN for cost-effective end-to-end communication.”

It is interesting to note that CWD’s dual combo module is integrated with ATEX-certified smart ID cards. Currently, these cards are deployed for employee safety in hazardous work sites such as oil rigs, mines and construction sites to track the mobility of employees and send SOS alerts during emergencies. As per plans, these cards are also being rolled out to track patients and staff in hospitals.

VP &GM of Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group, Marc Pégulu said: “Hybrid solutions for IoT devices bring what once were considered competing technologies into a holistic offering that leverages the strengths of different connectivity protocols. Semtech’s LoRa Connect portfolio combined with complementary connectivity options, like BLE, provide customers with broader geographic coverage for asset tracking devices while making network deployments much less complicated.”
