According to market research firm In-Stat, by 2015, mobile phone semiconductor component revenue is likely to exceed US$ 80 billion with a CAGR of 10.8 per cent. It also forecast that smartphones are poised to drive much of this growth over the next five years.
There are over 60 semiconductor companies worldwide that produce components for mobile phones. Revenue from smartphone processors including Wi-Fi, GPS and touchscreen controllers, gyros, and pico projectors, will grow much faster than the average, with semiconductor revenue associated with accelerometers and/or gyros exceeding US$ 300 million by 2014.
