  • Enthusiasts speculate on a Type R variant, signalling high-performance aspirations for the new electric sports car.
  • With 30 EV models planned by 2030, Honda accelerates its global electric vehicle push, catering to eco-conscious drivers.

In a recent press release, Honda, the renowned Japanese automaker, has unveiled hints about an exciting new electric sports car set to debut later this year in celebration of its 75th anniversary. The company’s move towards electrification comes as part of its broader plan to expand its electric vehicle (EV) lineup and contribute to a sustainable automotive future.

According to a report, the new electric sports car might take inspiration from Honda’s iconic S2000 model. Insiders within the company have referenced this classic car, sparking excitement among enthusiasts and signalling a potential blast from the past for the new electric offering. It will be built on Honda’s new e:n electric platform showcased in the e: Ny1 SUV during an event in Germany earlier this year. This platform is engineered with a low center of gravity and underfloor aerodynamics, promising to deliver an exhilarating performance while ensuring exceptional stability and control.

By 2030, the automaker plans to introduce 30 electric vehicle models globally, including at least two electric sportscars. Among these offerings will be an NSX model (sold under the Acura brand in North America) and a brand-new GT model. It is also speculated that the new electric sports car might carry the coveted Type R badge, positioning it as the only non-Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD) car to sport this prestigious moniker since the NSX Type R.

Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobiles for Honda UK, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering top-notch engineering and quality, stating, “While we cannot compete with Chinese manufacturers on price, we have 75 years of engineering experience.”

As the automotive industry continues to shift toward sustainability and electrification, Honda’s plans to provide a dynamic and eco-conscious driving experience positions the company as a key player in shaping the future of transportation. Enthusiasts and consumers eagerly await the electric sports car’s arrival, poised to embrace Honda’s legacy while embracing the excitement of a greener, more electrifying future on the roads.
